The NSPCC reports that “during 2021/22 in England and Wales there were 17,486 crimes logged by police where children had been sexually exploited – an average of 48 offences a day”.
As well as being a criminal matter, and a huge social evil, this is also a matter for us in general practice. We will be seeing these children, and learning how to recognise the signs of exploitation, how to respond to them, and having an understanding of the enormous health impact that follows in their wake is vital.
In this webinar, we will explore how to identify children and families at risk, how to safeguard them, and how the concept of Adverse Childhood Experience is something that all GPs and their teams should understand. We firmly believe that GPs can be amongst the most effective safeguarding practitioners we have; and we will share a story which demonstrates the safety and hope that we can sometimes be privileged to offer.
